The origins of this spiritually driven collection trace back to a pivotal 1988 career change, when Colcord walked away from a successful position at a New York City design firm to pursue fine art full-time. That bold move set off an expansive artistic and academic journey spanning multiple countries:

• Italian Inspiration: During her time in Siena, Italy, she studied the 13th-century masterpieces of Duccio di Buoninsegna, drawing inspiration from the spiritual “golden sphere” found within his compositions. She additionally honed her craft at the Academia di Belle Arte in Urbino.
• Academic Foundations: Her formal background includes a Master’s degree in Studio Art from New York University, complemented by a Master’s in Art and Religion earned at Yale University Divinity School.

Even though her creative output extends into filmmaking, collage, and books, clay remains Colcord’s preferred medium for visceral, unfiltered expression.
